YJ. A hospital as one of the places or a facility of service which is purposed for handling, nursing, and curing, secretes waste water in a significantly large amount and demands attention because it contains dangerous materials for the health of society and its environment.
This study was aimed to find out the description of the waste water quality of X Motherchild Hospital Makassar 2010. The parameters studied were BOD, COD, pH, and the temperature. This study was an observational research using descriptive approach with a supporting laboratory examination.
The findings showed that the BOD level was in average of 89,2 mg/l at inlet point, and in average 89,5 mg/l at outlet point. The COD level was in average of 110 mg/l at inlet point, and in average 118,8 mg/l at outlet point. The pH of inlet point was in average of 5,3 and the outlet point was in average of 5,5. While the temperature was in average of 26,20C at inlet point during three days successively, and 26,10C at outlet point.
Based on the findings of the research, the conclusion drawn was the parameter of BOD, COD, pH, and temperature was not qualified for that. The hospital’s management on formulating, organizing, and determining the policy of an environmental management of the hospital should evaluate the quality of waste water ready for drainage around the environment.
